"Lt Patton was called to the Vickers Aircraft factory at Weybridge on the 21st September 1940, where a large unexploded bomb had been found, he was not a member of any established Bomb Disposal Unit. As he could see no obvious way to defuse the bomb, he made a decision to move it to a safe place. As if it detonated it would have badly disrupted aircraft production. With another Officer the bomb was handled onto a piece of corrugated iron, which was used as a skid. This was then attached to a lorry and towed away, it tumbled into another bomb crater and exploded some hours later."
