Werne Panse finally reached the rank of Hauptmann during the Second World War. Flew a total of 635 ground attack sorties during the course of the war.

He was shot 7 times, has been wounded, but went back to his unit. Towards the end of WWII he flew newest experimental planes.

After the war he served with the Bundeswehr from 1956 until 31st March 1981 and finally reached the rank of Oberst.
