The following wartime excerpt describes why Borries was awarded the Knight’s Cross…
“Fierce breakthrough battles through fortified enemy positions were fought to seize the patch of forest northwest of Omytschkino following the capture of the village itself, and on the 21.04.1942 this forest finally fell into German hands. Oberstleutnant von Borries then decided to continue the attack northwards on his own initiative, and by doing so he created a decisive precursor for the restoration of contact between the II. and X. Armee-Korps. His brave actions and energetic leadership here were of invaluable import for the success of this attack.”
