On the 06.09.1941 Boddien and his Abteilung burst through a gap in the Soviet frontline. After this he and his troops held the road crossroads at Baltasarowskij (20 km in front of the friendly Korps’ frontline) for 4 days, and by doing so they enabled the Korps to swiftly advance in the direction of Perekop on the 11. and 12.09.1941. Boddien would eventually be awarded the Knight’s Cross for this action.

"In the Armed Forces report of 7 January announced Soviet landing operations at Yevpatoria in the Crimea, the opponents lost and left behind in fierce house and street fighting, 600 dead soldiers and 1,300 partisans on the battlefield. 203 Prisoners fell into our hands. This success is particularly attributed to the determined actions of Oberstleutnant von Boddien, who as commander of the Aufklärungsabteilung of an Infantry Division was killed in this battle. The Führer und Oberste Befehlshaber der Wehrmacht has subsequently awarded this brave officer the Oak Leaves to the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross."
