Awarded for his actions during the combat at Monte Cassino. He and his Kompanie (with an attached Pionier-Zug) particularly distinguished themselves during a night attack by the I./Fallschirm-Jäger-Regiment 4 to close a gap between Monastery Hill and the city of Cassino itself. The Kompanie would also later prove itself by significantly disrupting the freedom of movement by Allied forces on the Rocca Janula. By launching night patrols it managed to disrupt almost all forms of resupply to the area, destroying horse columns and capturing prisoners in the process.

According to Fellgiebel the surname is Boehlein.
