Major Bruno Bogert distinguished himself during the major defensive battles southwest of Beloj as the commander of the IV./Jäger-Bataillon (Luftwaffe-Feld-Division 2). Later, as commander of Sicherungs-Bataillon 670, he was among the units tasked with preventing the Soviets from quickly capturing the designated Fortress Brest. He had a decisive share in the fighting that ensued, which ultimately saw the foremost Soviet attacking spearheads smashed and thrown back across the Pripet river. He would be awarded the Knight’s Cross for this important achievement and his previous military accomplishments.
