The following wartime excerpt describes why Böhmer was awarded the Knight’s Cross…
“On the 18.06.1940 Major Böhmer, commander of III./I.R. 270, succeeded in swiftly storming the resistance nests atop the well defended hill north of Vitrimont with his Bataillon. This hill was located in the terrain south of the Rhine-Marne canal up to the Meurthe river. This action triggered the total disintegration of the enemy forces between the Meurthe and Mosel rivers.”
According to Fellgiebel the surname is Böhmer.
