Borrmann’s Knight’s Cross recommendation reads as follows…
“Borrmann has done an outstanding job of leading his Bataillon since taking over this post 5 months ago, particularly during the major defensive battles of the last weeks. In this time the enemy succeeded in capturing Hill 184.2 (5 km east of Krasnopolje), the cornerstone of the Division’s resistance line, due to the weakness of its garrison. However on the 30.09.1943 Borrmann personally recaptured it with his Bataillon reserve of just 19 men. The hill was again lost an hour later due to an overwhelming enemy attack. But, recognizing the gravity of the situation, Borrmann stormed forwards once more on his initiative with a handful of men, and this time he thrust beyond the hill and into the assembly area of a Russian battalion, which was dispersed. Borrmann was wounded during this latter phase, but now Hill 184.2 remained firmly under friendly control. Borrmann’s brave attack established the necessary conditions for an unhindered withdrawal of the Division’s 4 Bataillone and 3 Artillerie-Abteilungen that were still in Krasnopolje.”
