The following special order of the day, dated 06.07.1944, describes why the then Unteroffizier Brösamle was awarded the Knight’s Cross. The actions took place in the Kopan(ie) area, east of Brody…

“On the 26.06.1944 the Führer and Supreme Commander of the Wehrmacht awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross to Feldwebel Karl Brösamle of the 4./330.

On the 29.06.1944 the lord commander of the Korps-Abteilung bestowed the Knight’s Cross upon Feldwebel Brösamle in the name of the Führer and Supreme Commander of the Wehrmacht.

Feldwebel Brösamle showed a renewed display of bravery on the 17.03.1944 during the attack against Kol. Markusa by elements of the Regiments-Gruppe, which were supported by Sturmgeschützen. The assault ground to a halt just west of the village after the Sturmgeschütze had been knocked out. The then Unteroffizier Brösamle took over command with swift and independent resolve. He stormed forward at the head of his men through the strongest enemy defense fire, inspiring them all through his shining example and crushing several Russian resistance nests with hand grenades. His ruthlessness and daredevilry cleared the way for the following infantry to capture Kol. Markusa. Within about 15 minutes Feldwebel Brösamle eliminated 9 armoured foxholes, killing 20 Russians in the process and capturing 9 prisoners. He furthermore captured 1 anti-tank gun (4.5 cm), 1 heavy machine-gun, 2 anti-tank rifles, 2 machine pistols and 10 rifles.

Feldwebel Brösamle is no stranger to the members of the Regiments-Gruppe, as he has repeatedly distinguished himself through his outstanding bravery in numerous battles since the creation of the Regiments-Gruppe. This bravery was appropriately recognized on the 26.06.1944 through the award of the Knight’s Cross to the Iron Cross. The entire Regiments-Gruppe celebrates its first Knight’s Cross Holder with pride and joy, and congratulates him for receiving this high mark of bravery.
