Awarded for his successes as the commander of the auxiliary cruiser “Kormoran”. Over the course of a 350 day patrol he and his ship sunk 10 ships with 56965 GRT. In addition to this he also captured a further ship with 11309 GRT and sank the Australian light cruiser “Sydney” (with 6839 GRT) on the 29.11.1941.
