Awarded for distinguishing himself at the village of Szecseny. Here, at the start of December 1944, Hauptmann Dierks and his men ejected the Soviet forces that had entered into the village. They went on to hold for village for three weeks against all Soviet counterattacks, an achievement that was of decisive importance for the entire front of the IV. Panzer-Korps. This feat was accomplished alongside the efforts of SS-Sturmbannführer Riepe and SS-Hauptsturmführer Lipinski, who were similarly awarded the Knight’s Cross.
