The following wartime excerpt describes why Düvert would be awarded the Knight’s Cross…
“During the fighting around the Slucz Generalmajor Düvert once again showed great energy that was in turn passed on to his Division. He and his men broke through the modernly constructed Stalin Line near Hulsk, thrust ahead to the Zwiahel-Zhitomir road and immediately carried out a pursuit thrust along the road towards the southeast. Through this it was possible to immediately pursue the Russians. The frontline, which had to then temporarily been held up by the fighting for the Stalin Line, once again began shifting towards the east.”
Submitted on July 15th 1941.
Preliminary document on July 31st to Heeresgruppe Süd.
