By the end of the war he had achieved a total of 47 aerial victories at night and 1 by day (over a four-engined bomber) during the course of 97 night and 2 day sorties. Of particular note was a major success on the night of the 21.02.1945, in which he achieved 8 aerial victories within 17 minutes. This no doubt played a key part in his receiving the Knight’s Cross.
