Pilot credited with 54 victories and 145 missions declared MIA 5 July, 1943 in his Bf 109G-4 Werknummer 19754 'Black 8' after being hit by flak near Belgorod. Hauswirth was shot down by a Russian anti-aircraft gun but was able to exit the crashing plane by deploying his parachute. He became a POW in Russia and was declared killed in action by the German authorities until 1945. After returning from war captivity in 1947 he resumed his work as a carpenter.
