During the fighting for the Kertsch peninsula in November 1943 Oberfeldwebel Eich and his Zug were involved in a pincer movement against Soviet forces on the 20.11.1943. On this day Oberfeldwebel Eich and his Zug overran the Soviet attack spearheads and broke into the positions that they had entrenched themselves in. Eich himself was killed during the attack, however his efforts aided massively in reaching the old German frontline and closing the extant gap. He would receive the Knight’s Cross for his contributions on this day.
