Awarded the Knight’s Cross for his actions between Minsk and Molodeczno (specifically at Krasne) during Operation Bagration. He would particularly distinguish himself on the 02.07.1944 through his outstanding bravery and initiative. By clearing the road and railway to Molodeczno of hostile forces he opened the way for a number of trapped German trains as well as staff and supply troops to escape, the latter fleeing along the road to the northwest.
