Biography

On June 25th, 1944, Siegfried Fackler was seen according to wittness Stabsgefreiter Konrad Borisch (eveneens 14. (Panzerjäger) Kompanie) at a crossroads, east of Babroejsk on a road towards Mahilow (Belarus). At the same or a similar crossroads, 3 km (some sources state 10 km) east of Babroejsk, he was hit by a granade and died on June 27th. He sat on a Sturmgeschütz which was hit by an anti tank granade.

Fackler was justified for the Knight’s Cross according to the following wartime excerpt…

“On the 21.09.1943 Hauptmann Fackler launched an counterstrike on his own initiative into an important village south of Roslawl with two Pak platoons and 6 Sturmgeschütze. He engaged the attacking enemy forces that had not yet been cleared from the village, destroyed 2 T-34s and inflicted bloody losses on the Soviet infantry. Through this he secured the planned operations of his Korps after he had supported all nearby friendly forces and repelled the Soviets in a counterattack while at their head.”
