    As gunner of the Dutch merchant vessel m.v. Ondina which on November 11, 1942 in the Indian Ocean, although equipped with a single gun of light caliber and in the company of the escorting mine sweeper of the Royal British-Indian Navy, having engaged in combat two overwhelming Japanse raiders, having displayed excellent bravery and tact in operating the gun and having scored various on one of the enemy vessels.


    Awarded as replacement for the withdrawn "Bronzen Kruis" met "Eervolle Vermelding".
