Biography

Gerrit Kastein was a neurologist by trade and a resistance fighter during the Second World War. He was arrested by the SD and committed suicide on February 19, 1943 at the Binnenhof in The Hague.

"For under dangerous circumstances shown courage, initiative, perseverence, sacrifice and dedication in the strugle against the occupier of the Dutch independence and for the keeping of mental freedom, thus honoring with him one of the ways of resistance, which in his extensive activities from 15th May 1940 until 5th May 1945 in growing influence having affected damage to the enemy and thus in an unforgettable way having contributed to the liberation of the country."
