"For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He took out a small daylight patrol and brought back valuable information about the condition of the enemy trenches and positions of his posts and machine guns. Later, he reconnoitred some bridges and brought in most valuable information enabling a post to be established on the only bridge which infantry could cross. Hedid very fine work."
