Awarded for his contributions to the success of U-48 as its Torpedo-Weapons-Officer during the early war period. Serving under U-Boat commanders Schultze, Rösing and Bleichrodt, Suhren participated in the sinking of 200,000 GRT of shipping.

Awarded following three successful cruises during which he sunk 10 ships with 28324 GRT (including the British corvette "Zinnia" on the 23.08.1941) and damaged a further 2 with 11596 GRT.
56th Award.
Awarded following a further three very successful cruises, during which 10 ships with 67981 GRT were sunk and 3 ships with 19440 GRT were damaged by Suhren and his U-Boat.
