Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster (second award)
Second Lieutenant William L. Harlow was imprisoned in the POW camp Oflag XIII-B near Hammelburg. There he was rescued by the spearheads (Task force Baum) of the Third Army. On 28 March 1945 he insisted on joining Patton's men and was seriously wounded. Second Lieutenant Harlow died 3 April 1945 in a prisoner of war hospital in Hammelburg, Germany, as the result of wounds received during a tank battle.
