Official Citation:
"Has decorated himself by acts of courage, devotion and initiative, during one or more flights as a pilot in a D-XXI, by getting airborne in the early morning of May 10th 1940, during the first bombardment on the Ypenburg airfield, shooting down one of three enemy bombers and having to land on the airfield of Ockenburg without munition and petrol.
Finally for participating on May 14th as pilot on a G-1, which he had only flown a few times, during a reconnaissence flight over the Grebbeline, where his plane was hit several times."
