George Francois Ragaert was the skipper of the Belgian fishing vessel Lydie Suzanne (26 tons, built 1936). At the end of May 1940 the Lydie Suzanne carried Belgian refugees to England. After this he sailed four trips from ant towards Dunkirk. On May 30th the ship already had transported over1,000 troops from the beaches to larger vessels. The ship herself sailed 105 persons to Ramsgate on May 31st, 98 on June 2nd and 10 more on June 3rd.
After having done her job, the ship was blown op at Le Havre. Ragaert himself managed to escape to England and joined the Belgians that operated within the Royal Navy. He served as an Acting Leading Seaman (LT/SB/JX.62) on board the H.M.S. Sheldon.
