Evert Willem Boomsma was born February 16th, 1914, the son of Reinder (Rein) Boomsma (June 19th, 1879, Schagen, † May 26th, 1943, Neuengamme) and Gerardina Maria Schallenberg (July 23rd, 1880 Rotterdam, † August 26th, 1963, Amsterdam) and joined the Aviation Department in 1936 after having graduated from the Automotive Technical School in The Hague. He served on Valkenburg Air Base and Soesterberg Air Base, attaining the rank of Sgt. Aircraft Mechanic. At the outbreak of WW 2, he was stationed in Bergen aan Zee. May 6th, 1941, he manged to escape to England from the Minerva Haven in Amsterdam in a Fokker T8W which had been confiscatd by the Germans.
September 18th, 1946 he married Muriel May Williams (* August 29th, 1919 - † January 3rd, 2007) in London. He returned to The Netherlands and remained in the Koninklijke Luchtmacht until his retirement on February 28th, 1969. Immediately after his retirement, the family moved to the United Kingdom where he remained until his death on December 11th, 1986.
