Mackensen and his Korps distinguished themselves during the breaking of Soviet resistance near Wledzimierz, the tank battle west of Zalurce, the fighting at Luck and Festung Rowne, the crossing of the Horyn river, the penetration of the Stalin line and the capture of Zhitomir.

By this successful maneuver the Soviet 6th and 57th Armies were cut off and annihilated.
