Biography

Stunkard joined the Army Signal Corps in 1939. He was stationed at Scoofield Barracks in Hawaii. In his spare time he took flying lessons. On december 7th 1941 he was active during 15 minutes, flying a Stearman Trainer biplane from 08.00 hours. Beceause of a shortage on pilots he started military flight training. He completed his training as a Flight Sergeant and was sent to North Africa, flying Lockheed P-38 Lightnings. He made over 400 hours of flight of which over 300 in battle. He had 4,5 confirmed kills.
