Awarded for his actions during the combat for the Warsaw—Brest-Litovsk road in early August 1944. Following a Soviet penetration Leutnant Kunert rallied his radio operators and a handful of infantry, stormed a village which had just recently been lost to the attackers and was able to restore the main German line after difficult close combat.
