Biography

Educated in public schools in Jackson County, South Dakota.

Originally from Snohomish County, Washington he entered service from Tacoma, Washington on March 21, 1942. Reached the rank of Technical Sergeant. He was wounded in action on August 3rd, 1944 when he suffered shrapnel wounds to his right arm. He returned to duty November 13th, 1944 after recuperating from his wounds. He was again wounded in action December 8th, 1944 and died of his wounds the following day, December 9th, 1944.

Arnie was born in South Dakota on 22 September 1911 to Iver and Sirine Aalbu. Both were of Norwegian descent. He also had three brothers (Harold, Sverre, Martin) and a sister (Agnes).

Arnie enlisted in the United States Army from Tacoma, Washington on 21 March 1942 (ASN: 39171347). He was a member of Company L, 134th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division. For being wounded in action in August 1944, he awarded the Purple Heart. His hospitalization kept him from active duty for 3–4 months.

After returning to combat in December 1944, he was once again wounded in action. He died of his wounds on 9 December 1944 while in a hospital in France. His body was returned to the US and was buried in the Anderson Cemetery in East Stanwood, Washington.
