Erich Fellgiebel went in September 1905 in Military service. He joines the German Army as Offiziersanwärter in a Nachrichtenbataillon.
After the First World War he stays in the Army and becomes Generalstabsoffizier. In August 1938 het is made Chef des Heeresnachrichtenwesens and Chef der Wehrmachtnachrichtenverbindungen within the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht. By his contacts with Generaloberst Luwdig Beck and Generaloberst Franz Halder, he becomes involved in the Military resistance against Hitler. He was involved in the preparations for "Operatie Walküre", the attempt on Hitlers life that finally takes place on 20th July 1944. During the attempt he cuts off all communications from and towards the Führerhauptquartier. When is becomes obvious that Hitler survived, he is forced to lift all blockades. Although he tries to escape, he is being arrested the same day in Eastern Prussia end put on to trial at the Volksgerichtshof of Roland Freisler on 10th August 1944. Here he is sentenced to death and is executed by hanging on 4th September 1944.
