On the 07.08.1943 Oberleutnant Eggers and his Kompanie repelled several Soviet armoured attacks while under heavy bombardment from ground attack aircraft and artillery. In this time Eggers personally destroyed 3 US lend-lease tanks. Despite being wounded himself he and his Kompanie were subsequently able to fight through enemy lines to a blocking position that had been built with the time Eggers and his men had bought. Through this action Eggers prevented a Soviet breakthrough, and he would be awarded the Knight’s Cross in recognition of this feat.
