Oberjäger Oppermann has by enemy attacks on 14th and 15th March 1943, his on three sides by heavy enemy units besieged Stützpunkt, held for 24 hours and by he determined resistance the planned withdrawel from the Redna-line was a succes. At the enemy breakthrough south of Welikoje-Sselo on 18th March 1943, Oberjäger Oppermann and his group prevented the widening of the breakthrough.
Although heavily wounded by granade shrapnel on the head, he refused to leave his post, thus leaving his young soldiers alone. Despite his injuries he stayed leading the resistence until he lost coinciousness. Thank to his doing it was that the eleged cointerattack was a succes (Regimentstagesbefehl vom 12.04.1943, Jägerregiment 38, Kommandeur Oberst Eckardt).
