The following newspaper article (dated 09.12.1944) describes why Wojak received the Knight’s Cross…

“Bottrop Knight’s Cross Holder Fallen:

Hauptmann Alfred Wojak… was killed in action at the beginning of November whilst serving as a Batterie commander in a Panzer-Artillerie-Regiment during the fighting in Hungary. He was decorated with the high award in June 1944 after he had seized two river crossings in the face of significant enemy resistance. This determined display of duty enabled the smooth conduct of friendly march movements in this area.”
