"Has distinguished himself by couragious and tactfull acting in battle against the enemy by, on 12th and 13th May 1940 in the fightings on the Grebbeberg, after needing to re-establish contact as batallion adjutant with another batallion that had already engaged in the fighting, in a fearless way and under heavy enemy fire with one of the units of that batallion takin gpart in the fightings, when he after several attempts was not able to reach his own troops. Hereby himself servicing a machine gun and throwing handgranades, through which the enemy in front and in the back of the own trenches sustained casualties and could only advance inch by inch.
Through his deteminded, inspiring, encouraging and firm attitude in the middle of the battle with handgrenades over short distance raising the moral of a small group he took command of and making it possible to retreat and in that way stopping the enemy in encircling them."
