After graduating from high school he became a semiskilled upholsterer.
Entered service from Peoria, Illinois on February 10th, 1943. Reached the rank of Private. Killed in action on June 9, 1944 in Carentan, France.

From the story that was told to me by my cousin Sidney Wasson, "Phillip and a buddy was in a hedge row with machine gun firing around them in France. For some reason Phillip stood up and that is something his buddy next to him could never understand on why he stood up as they had been crouched down in order to cover themselves from the flying bullets. When Phillip stood up the German machine guns around him shot and killed him."
His buddy after the war went to see Phillips parents to tell them what had happened during Philips final day.
