The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Warner S. Deyoe (42113375), Private First Class, 309th Infantry, United States Army. For extraordinary heroism in action against the enemy on 13 March 1945, in Germany.

When his company was halted by intense fire from a hostile tank, Private First Class Deyou voluntarily left his position of comparative safety and crawled across 150 yards of open, fire-swept terrain. Reaching a point 100 yards from the tank, he opened fire with his rocket launcher, disabling the vehicle. Swinging its guns around, the tank concentrated its entire fire power upon him. Although painfully wounded Private First Class Deyoe continued to fire until the tank was destroyed. Later, he single handedly stormed a German machine gun nest, killing the occupants and removing the last obstacle in the company's advance.
