Awarded for the achievements of his 24. Flak-Division during ground combat against Soviet forces near Vienna in early 1945. Despite the lack of experience in this role it did an outstanding job, bringing much needed relief to other German units. Parts of the Division managed to escape the developing pocket at Vienna via Korneuburg and under Grieshammer’s leadership took up new positions at the Thaya river under the command of the 8. Armee.
