"Has decorated himself by brave conduct against the enemy on 10th Mat 1940 near Hedel during an attack of enemy aircraft on an anti-aircraft battery, by, although not a member of the guncrew, going to a damaged gun; repairing the gun and at first operating it himself, until the by his example motivated gunners returned to their posts; also by this doing so the enemy attack was repelled."
