"One night in August, 1940, this officer attacked the German warship Gneisenau, in the floating dock at Kiel from 800 feet in the face of intense enemy anti-aircraft fire and searchlights. He dropped a stick of bombs successfully across the target. Since the 17th June, 1940, Pilot Officer Simson has taken part in eighteen raids over Germany. As captain of aircraft he has displayed outstanding tenacity, determination
and devotion to duty, and has at all times set a very high standard."
