On Christmas night, 24th December 1944, at 2030hrs a barrage landed around "C" Battery, 1st Sergeant John Koster and Staff Sergeant Nicholas Capozzoli were instantly killed when a heavy caliber shell crashed into their Camp Elsenborn mess hall.
