Awarded for a (relatively) very successful patrol in the English Channel at the end of June 1944, in which he torpedoed five enemy vessels. Of these, one was a British destroyer (HMS Goodson) and was sunk. Three other ships with 21550 GRT were also sunk, and a fourth (with 7240 GRT) was damaged.
