Krauss’s Knight’s Cross recommendation was submitted via telex, and reads as follows…
“Since the start of combat in the Budapest pocket SS-Sturmbannführer Krauss and his Regiment have repelled or cleaned up 75 attacks in battalion or company strength. On the 02.01.1945, following days of hard and eventful combat around the rocky Hill 300, he launched an envelopment attack with his last 35 men on his own initiative and definitively brought the hill under our control. Enemy losses amounted to 90 dead, numerous infantry weapons and 5 anti-tank guns.”
