"Lt. Col. J.B. WARD-PERKINS has been Deputy Director of Monuments, Fine Arts and Archives Sub-Commission from March 1944. During this period Lt. Col. Ward-Perkins unflagging work and energy largely in Army Areas, was instrumental in the protection of many treasures of national and even world wide importance from the effects of war. Furthermore his resource and initiative in undertaking first aid repair has kept for the world many of its great treasures. At Headquarters he was personally concerned in conjunction with the Allied Air Force in making plans whereby the Air Forces, were able, with a market degree of success to avoid bombing historic buildings and repositories of Art in the North."

"Lieutenant Colonel John Bryan Ward-Perkins performed meritorious services from March 1944 to July 1945. As Acting Director of the Monuments, Fine Arts and Archives Sub-Commission Headquarters, Allied Commission, Colonel Ward -Perkins, with an exceptionally clear vision of both military and scholarly vales involved, supplied the necessary energy for the creation, adoption and protection of a practical program for the safeguarding of monuments and fine arts which fell in the wake of war over the entire Italian battle-ground. As a result of his efforts, printed volumes of lists of protected monuments were published in time for use in the 1944 offensives. Hid scholarly energy, military devotion, alertness and forceful performance of duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the British Armed Forces and reflect great credit upon himself and the Military Forces of Great Britain."
