Citation:
"North of Helcheteren in the wooded area, on the morning of 10th September 1944, an enemy position held by 700 to 800 men was attacked by 'C' Company the Herefordshire Regt.. and 'C' Squadron Fife and Forfar Regt.. practically all the enemy being killed or captured. In the early stages of the attack, during very fierce fighting, No 15 platoon lost its Platoon Commander, Platoon Sergeant., and all Section Commanders. Lance-Corpl. Everall took command of the platoon, and under his guidance they fought their way through innumerable enemy posts to an objective 1000yds in depth. But for this determined and inspiring leadership the other leading platoon would have had an open flank and been subject to enfilade fire which would have stopped the attack. When on the objective this junior N.C.O. properly organised the consolidation, and pushed forward his contact patrols. There is no doubt that the action of Lance-Corpl Everall is in no small way responsible for the complete defeat of this German Parachute Battalion."
