    John Wainwright was born on November 28th, 1921 in Bolton and gres up in Leeds, Yorkshire. When World War Two started, het left for London and worked at the Home Office. In 1942 he joined the RAF and was trained to be pilot in Ponca City, Oklahoma. During the war he flew the Short Stirling and Avro Lancaster.

    After the war, John Wainwright flew with BOAC.
