    Service number 37970.

    Gus Holden was commissioned in the RAF in 1936 as a fighter pilot and was active in France in May 1940 flying Hurricanes. He shot down three German aircraft there.
    In June 1941 he was posted as CO of No. 501 Squadron in West Africa
    after which he became a Staff Officer (Fighter Training) at the Air Ministry. In 1944 he was posted to HQ Far East, Kandy, staying in the RAF until 1964.
