1914-1918: military service
1918: promoted to Leutnant der Reserve
1919-1923: member of the Freikorps in the Ehrhardt Brigade
1919-1924: member of the Association of Former Front Soldiers "Stahlhelm"
1920-1921: completed his studies at the Universities of Halle and Giessen as an animal breeding inspector and certified farmer
1921-1923: assistant at the animal breeding institute of the University of Halle, where he also received his doctorate
1926-1929: became a farmer on the Bacherhof, an ancestral farm in the Sieg district
01.04.1930: joined the NSDAP
1931-1935: member of the SA
01.10.1935: main department head in the Reichsnährstand (RNSt) in Berlin
09.11.1935: joined the SS, where he quickly made a career
