Agar joined the RCAF in 1940.
After the war, he attempted to set up an air service in Penticton and Kelowna, British Columbia, and in 1947 flew the first commercial helicopter into Canada, spraying orchards with insecticide. He perfected helicopter flying in mountainous terrain and carried out aerial surveys.
His company, Okanagan Air Service, became one of the largest commercial helicopter operations in the world. He was awarded the McKee Trophy in 1950.
