Recommendation:
On 24 July 1943 in front of Nissoria (Sicily), Lieutenant O.L. Roberts, Regimental Intelligence Officer was acting as rear link during an attack on a strongly held enemy position. Lieutenant Roberts’ tank was hit by enemy fire and rendered immobile. Lieutenant Roberts continued to fight the guns until flames made further action impossible. This officer displayed outstanding gallantry and courage then arming himself with a bren gun, set out on foot by himself in the face of heavy enemy fire in an attempt to silence an anti-tank gun which was engaging our tanks.
