During the attack on Nissoria (Sicily), 24 July 1943, Sergeant Allen led his troop with great coolness and daring. In the initial assault he skillfully demolished an anti-tank gun and a strongly held infantry position from point blank range.
After silencing opposition on the objective, Sergeant Allen showed great initiative in the face of enemy fire proceeding to make a reconnaissance on foot. He discovered additional enemy positions and with outstanding leadership aggressively attacked the defences, handling his troop with such spirit and courage in the face of heavy anti-tank and mortar fire that the enemy posts were wiped out.
